GILLARD:

Campaigned in western Sydney, including the relatively safe seat of Parramatta and
the marginal seat of Lindsay, both held by Labor.

Gave a live television interview on the Today Show and FM station 2WS highlighting
her decision to change the way she will campaign for the August 21 election. Later interview
with ABC radio and pre-recorded an interview with Seven's Today Tonight.



Promise: Tripling the amount of family assistance parents would receive for older teens
who are still at school, worth $668 million; giving school principals more power to manage
budgets and hire teachers.



Stunt: As part of being the real Julia, she mingled with commuters in Parramatta straight
after her television interview, before buying a cheesecake and heading off to an interview
with 2WS.



Quote: "I'm desperate to make sure that Australians in this election campaign get to
hear from me, get to hear from me directly."





ABBOTT:

Campaigned in Cairns, in the marginal seat of Leichhardt, which the Liberal National
Party's Warren Entsch is hoping to win back from Labor. Later flew south to Townsville,
where the coalition is trying to hang onto Herbert despite the retirement of sitting MP
Peter Lindsay.



Promise: A $62 million package for the tourism sector, including $40 million to help
boost infrastructure.



Stunt: Sat in the captain's seat of tourism boat based in Cairns.

Quote: "(It) makes me feel very powerful sitting here. (But) I don't want to get ahead
of myself sitting in the top chair." - Mr Abbott joked, as he made himself comfortable
in the captain's seat.



OTHERS:

POLLS - The latest Newspoll published in The Australian newspaper on Monday had Labor
and the coalition tied at 50-50. A Nielsen poll on Saturday had the government trailing
48-52 ending a bad week for Labor during which campaign announcements were overshadowed
by damaging leaks.
